Jim Zorn, who has been a lame-duck coach in Washington since the early weeks of the season, tried one of the zaniest plays of the season Monday night. Twice.
Of was Zorn really sticking it to his soon-to-be ex-employers?
With two seconds left in the first half, the Redskins trailed the Giants 24-0 in what was probably the most one-sided half of the season for any team. Washington, which at one point had been outgained 224 yards to minus-2, lined up to try a field goal, then had a bunch of players run to the left sideline. New York coach Tom Coughlin quickly called time out. When the teams came back, the Skins did it again, punter Hunter Smith tried to pass and in was intercepted. No, three points wouldn't have done much in a game that ended 45-12, but at least it would have been interesting to kick.
Except maybe Zorn was just annoyed _ new general manager Bruce Allen already has interviewed defensive backfield coach Jerry Gray for the coaching job although Mike Shahanan is considered the frontrunner for |
